Chinese police authority crack down on fake Covid-19 manufacturers

Chinese police detained scores of people launching a crackdown on the manufacturing and selling of fake Covid-19 vaccinations which the authorities claimed that the illicit trade has been going on for months.

The state news agency Xinhua reported on Monday that the law enforcement authority targeted crime rings in Beijing, the Shandong and the eastern provinces of Jiangsu, resulting in over 80 arrests and the seizure of some 3,000 syringes filled with saline. It also reported that the police were also able to detect a number of locations where the counterfeit drugs were produced and sold. 

The China’s Ministry of Public Security announced that it was actively rooting out “the illegal practice of medicine and fraud under the guise of the vaccines.” and the operation is part of a wider efforts.

Sinovac and Sinopharm jab already approved by China for its nationwide Covid-19 vaccination drive and began at the start of January. 

So far, an estimated 24 million doses have been administered and China drives hopes to vaccinate up to 50 million people before the start of the Lunar New Year holida.
